Welcome to a Making Playground Without a Script
MFSZ 2026 · Greater Bay Area Maker Summit

AI tools make life easier. But when individuality and creativity are boxed in, the power to shape the future starts slipping into the hands of algorithms and screens.

We have no intention of waiting passively for a future someone else has programmed. A maker renaissance is quietly taking shape.

Pick up your tools again. Feel the resistance of real materials. Experience that first shudder as your prototype comes to life. The future has never been something you wait to download. It is a world of possibilities you build with your own hands, one screw at a time.

The world keeps moving. We want to evolve alongside technology—and the people who share our drive to create.

For the 2026 Greater Bay Area Maker Summit, we are creating a space dedicated to experimentation: Alpha Camp. A place to test boundaries through trial and error, and spark new ideas through collaboration.

Come here.
Use your hands.
Build a future of your own.

01 / Why Call It an Experiment?

Finding new answers means venturing beyond familiar paths. Think of it as a new adventure into the unknown.

And stepping into the unknown is precisely what experimentation is about.

That is why we call Alpha Camp an experiment, rather than a conventional exhibition or workshop series.

Here, nothing is set in stone. Even we cannot predict exactly what will happen over these two days.

◆ The topics are open. No themes dictated from above, no rigid agenda. If it involves hands-on making, there is room for it here.

◆ The people are a surprise. No degree requirements. No title checks. The person at the next table could be a veteran welder with extraordinary skills, a determined beginner handling a prototyping board for the first time—or your future partner in an all-night build.

◆ The sparks are unpredictable. Inspiration might arrive at the workbench rather than onstage. An impromptu debugging session could turn into a spontaneous gathering of people geeking out and solving problems together.

◆ The outcome is unwritten. Nobody knows what wonderfully strange thing you might build, or what skill you might learn, in two days. That unpredictability is part of the thrill.

We are not handing out formulas or ready-made answers.

There are no spectators here. Everyone who walks in becomes a participant—and a variable—in this unfolding experiment.

Bring an unanswered question, a half-finished prototype, or simply the determination to make something work. Leave the rest to unexpected encounters, spontaneous chemistry, and the future you shape with your own hands.

02 / How Does the Experiment Work?

Alpha Camp is a working lab. Come ready to step up and share, or roll up your sleeves and build.

You can move freely between two roles:

Participant: Get your ticket → Reserve the sessions that interest you → Get hands-on.

Skill sharer: Submit a skill or experience you can share → Connect with interested makers → Confirm your session and teach or lead a build → Get paid.

Our job is to connect “I want to learn” with “I can teach.” Filling a schedule means little on its own. One session that helps people accomplish something is worth more than ten disconnected talks full of empty promises.

Everyone is welcome. No academic credentials, impressive titles, or polished portfolios required. A practical skill you can share—or a strong desire to make something yourself—matters far more.

Come to listen and learn, and you should leave with at least one thing: a useful skill, a friend who can help you out, or an idea you can start building as soon as you get home.

Skill sharers receive real compensation, too: a base stipend plus a share based on actual attendance. We will agree on payment and material requirements before each session. And if inspiration strikes on-site and you want to run a spontaneous workshop or get a group together, just let us know. We can add a session on the spot.

We will keep updating the program, so stay tuned for something that catches your eye.

03 / Find Your People. Hone Your Craft.

Understand a craft deeply. Practice until your hands know what to do. That is the spirit of Alpha Camp.

Soldering, CAD, 3D printing, AI-powered hardware, e-textiles, unconventional fabrication techniques—if you have something real to show, can explain it clearly, and have experience to share, you are welcome here.

We can talk about big trends, too. Just bring the conversation down to actual projects, parts, and screws.

Want to build something cyberpunk? Go for it. Take things apart, question ready-made answers, and work with the people beside you. Being a technology pioneer means having the courage to explore an unproven direction because your instincts tell you it is worth a try.

There are no fixed subject boundaries. If you have practical knowledge to share, take your place at the workbench:

◆ Soldering and circuit repair; PCB design and prototyping

◆ Embedded development, microcontrollers, and open-source hardware

◆ Laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining, woodworking, and metalworking

◆ Robotics, robotic arms, drones, and ROS

◆ Edge AI, local model deployment, and bringing large language models into hardware

◆ IoT, sensors, and wireless communications

◆ Wearable electronics, fashion tech, interactive installations, and art-tech projects

◆ Music synthesis, bio-making, agricultural innovation, and more

An electronics skill tree—start here.

Note: These are examples of possible topics. Confirmed workshops and schedules will be announced through official channels.

If you have skills, put them to work with people eager to try. Every bizarre bug you have fixed, every painful mistake you have worked through, and every final breakthrough could be exactly what someone else needs to get unstuck.

Bring a real project, an approach you can explain, and tools people can use.

Submit your skill, and our system will match you with people who want to learn it. Once your session is complete, you will be paid according to the agreed terms and actual attendance.

We share practical techniques, not get-successful-quick promises. Submitting a skill is completely free. Sales pitches disguised as workshops are not welcome.

04 / The Future Starts at the Workbench

Do not wait for the future to sweep you along. And do not let the anxiety on your screen keep you from taking the first step.

AI is rewriting the rules. We want to help write what comes next.

Every day, people are out there wiring, prototyping, debugging, and manufacturing. Others have a brilliant idea in their heads and need just one thing to get started: the right tool, a little experience, or someone willing to stay up all night and build alongside them.

Connecting these people can accomplish more than a hundred grand speeches about how “the future is here.”

The Greater Bay Area Maker Summit (MFSZ) is launching Alpha Camp. Get your ticket, tell us what you want to learn, or show us what you can teach. We will connect learning needs with practical sessions—and bring them to life at the workbench.

Here, what counts is making, experimenting, exchanging ideas, and having the confidence to try again. Being a pioneer means taking that first step and helping the people around you move forward, too.

The first confirmed sessions, schedules, session fees, and materials lists are being released progressively.

Over the past 13 years, the development trajectory of Maker Faire Shenzhen can be seen as a microcosm of the development of maker culture in China.

  • 2012: “Gathering Small Wisdom, Journeying through the Great Future” – This was the first Mini Maker Faire in China, with less than 1000 attendees, and was more like a gathering within a small circle. But we saw the infinite possibilities emerging from the maker community.
  • 2013: The slogan was absent, and the maker community was still small. – In the OCT Creative Park, there were cross-disciplinary exchanges among different creative communities, silently laying the foundation for cultural output.
  • 2014: “Innovate with China” – the event was upgraded to the Featured level for the first time, with a significant increase in scale compared to previous years, and the beginning of professional independent forums. This year, makers began to enter the public’s view.
  • 2015: “Everyone is a Maker, what are you waiting for?” – This year’s Shenzhen International Maker Week became one of the largest Maker Faires in the world. This year, the concept of “maker” was elevated to a national level, and the trend of “mass innovation, mass entrepreneurship” swept across the country.
  • 2016: “My World, My Creation” – As the sub-venue of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, the event was held for the first time in the commercial center area, experiencing unpredictable weather from typhoons to scorching heat. Many makers succeeded in your entrepreneurial endeavors this year, but it seemed like there were even more failures. The hype around entrepreneurship shifted towards rationality.
  • 2017: “Makers, Go Pro” – The event took place at the university campus for the first time, focusing on Maker Pros and providing a platform for diverse innovators and makers to showcase themselves, presenting more possibilities for the growth path of makers to the entire community.
  • 2018: “Co-making in the City” – The main venue of Shenzhen International Maker Week, where individuals and groups with shared visions and values gathered to showcase stories, projects, and explorations of collaboration among different communities and people.
  • 2019: ” To the Heart of Community, To the Cluster of Industry” – The event was upgraded to the Maker Faire Shenzhen, attempting to attract professional audiences and focusing on pragmatic aspects such as solving the needs of industrial upgrading and co-developin. It aims to build a platform for innovation and industry dialogue and collaboration.
  • 2023: “Where Are The Makers?”– Starting from our own mission and values, we aim to explore the future direction of makers and theapossibilities for commercialization. Though this question does not have a definitive answer, we do hope that through this event, we can communicate and share with every one of you, finding more ideas and directions together.
  • 2024: “Everything is AI” – This year, we brought together over 120 exhibitors from around the world, attracting nearly 1,500 professional attendees from nearly 20 countries and over 20 provinces across China. The exhibition showcased a wide range of AI application projects and hosted 10 AI hardware-themed satellite events, alongside various workshops.
  • 2025 — “AI and more things” The summit gathered nearly 100 international innovation ambassadors and showcased nearly 1,000 AI hardware projects. Participants included technology leaders, makers, industry experts, and university teams from over 30 countries, forming a global innovation platform integrating cutting-edge ideas, technical exchange, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
